Arathil Candoth family and the protecting family deity, Arathil Bhagavathi are inseperably linked in such a way that one cannot think of one without remembering other. The Golden era of the candoth family begins with the arrival of the Arathil Bhagavathy from the place called Arathil. From then on, the history of the family is inscribed in golden letters as one can see it today. We will begin with the history of Arathil Devi the presiding Goddess of Arathil Candoth Family today.

By the commandments of Lord Parasurama, the Brahmin clan of Semanthaka Panchakam in Haryana had migrated to the Southern end of India Gokarnam carrying with them the idol of the Devi which they were worshipping everyday. They came and settled at the place where Parasurama has instructed them to settle down. After the passage of time the Raja of Kolath Nadu had quaralled with the dominant Namboothiri families of the locality and he came up in arms against them. But the elderley advisors of the Raja counselled him that the wrath of the Brahmins that will be generated by a battle would destory his Kingdom and suggested other means to overwhelm them.

The Raja of Kolathnadu in compliance to the advices of his counsellors went to Gokarnam where the Haryana clan was living, to seek their help. When Raja divulged them the purpose of his visit, after long deliberations, the Gokarnam, Brahmins put forward a demand "We will come with you to Kolath Nadu as requested on one condition, that we want the Semanthaka Panchaka Theertham to be reconstructed when the right time comes"

The Raja duly obliged their demand by reconstructing the Theertham within the prescribed time schedule to their total satisfaction. Totally elated and satisfied, the Brahmin clan that consisted 237 families from 3 villages of Gokarnam set out with the Raja to Kolath Nadu with the sacred idol of the Devi which they were worshipping all the time. When they arrived at their destination it was at Poovathil Muttu at Arathil Desom that they installed the idol and offered the first pooja since they set out on their journey
